In an exclusive interview to Kalvimalar, the Malaysian Higher Education Minister, Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Noordin told:

Regarding Malaysian Higher Education

All colleges and Universities function under the direct control of Higher Education Ministry. To ensure and develop the quality of education institutions few groups including qualification agency has been established. Malaysian Education Promotional centers function with an objective of attracting lot of foreign students.  The country provides international standard of higher education.

What are chances to obtain higher education in your country for foreign students?

Malaysia provides good security to all the foreign students staying in the country.  The fees and others expenses here are much cheaper than other countries. Presently, nearly 70,000 foreign students study in Malaysia. Indian students alone sum up to 2,000. As all the courses offered in the country are recognized by the government there no need to panic.

What are the job prospects for international students in Malaysia?

It is good for the persons pursuing studies in foreign countries to go back and serve their own nation.  It is right for them to use their knowledge and talent for their own country.

Recently the Malaysian government released a statement stating, No whereabouts of 40,000 Indians who came to Malaysia.   What is your advice to the foreign students?

Persons who come to Malaysia for work and tourism purpose stay back even after their expiry of visa. To avoid this the Malaysian government plans to initiate few important measures in the visa processes. There is no harm by the students who come on education visa. However, there could be few changes in the student visa too. It is not necessary for the students coming to Malaysia for Higher education should know Malay language. As the entire higher education here is offered through English, good English knowledge would suffice the need. As for as Indians are concerned they have very good English skill.

Does the Malaysian government provide any sort of financial aid or concessions to foreign students?

No.

What is your opinion about higher education in India?

Indian government should be more cautious on providing recognition to education institutions and focus more on institutional infrastructures.

How is the relation with India in terms of Education? What are the future plans?

Malaysian Government has a very good cordial relationship with India. Both the countries have signed several understandings to exchange training sessions, infrastructure facilities, innovative activities and research and developmental activities. We look forward for more such understanding in the future days to come.
