As result of global economic meltdown, school dropout is likely to escalate to 5.6 crores before 2015, UN sources say.

Developed countries were focused more on pumping additional funds to manage the economic slow down, but failed to look into the basic education of the country, a UNESCO report revealed.

Speaking about this, Kevin Watkins, the person behind this report told, Severe complexity has developed in achieving the centenary goal of developing basic education by the year 2015. In particular, girl student dropouts around the globe have already touched 54 percent. With only 5 more years to achieve the purpose, more importance should be provided towards the education of girl children. But, the economic slowdown swept away most of the funds allotted for basic education of children.

Donations for the development of basic education have drastically come down at the international level. As a result this would affect the poor nations. A complete transformation should be brought out in the lifestyle of children from poor family, child laborers and children from slums. We have asked for more funds for providing basic education to children in distress he said.

Ban Ki Moon, the UN secretary general has invited all developed and developing countries to come forward to provide funds for this purpose.  All the nations should work collectively towards the goal of 2015, poverty eradication, economic development and the complete well-being of children.  Some governments provide quality education, but fail to provide the same to economically and socially backward children. We need to change this disparity, he appealed.
