Venkatraman Ramakrishnan has brought delight and laurel to India joining the elite list of scholars like Sir.C.V.Raman, Subrmanium Chanderasekhar and Hargopinath Khurana who had earlier obtained Nobel Prize for their contribution to science.

I started to carry out my research activities in Physics based on a specific plan. I needed someone to provide me a good idea towards this. But, as I started to contemplate, about the guide for my research activities? I happened to read a journal called Scientific American. An article on the subject Biology fascinated me so much in the journal. As a result, I resolved to get my second P.Hd in Biology.
Taking up different departments for studies and research is the strength of American education set up. But, this is not found in many countries. If you commit yourself to accomplish a certain thing, the Americans only look at the commitment and nothing else. They are not concerned about most of your family details like, who you are, where you come from and are not interested to know about your family background.
I was given a chance to carry out research based only on my skill. America is considered as the science hub across the globe. They spend huge amounts on researches. Therefore, it is very easy to pursue research activity in this country.
Many ask me, after getting all higher education and basic qualification in India, why are you carrying out scientific research for America?
I consider, science as a global effort. The place of discovery is not important. A discovery made in a particular country can be useful for other countries.
I obtained my basic education India and my specialized education in America. I got the consent to carry our research on Ribosome only in America. Apart from this country, Britain is only nation that has the facility to identify higher ribosome structure, so these three nations deserve praise for the Nobel Prize I received.
In India research activities need lot development. Numerous research centers need to be established among the universities. It is important to give marks only for skills in teacher and student examinations. India needs to give more importance to Education. Though my teachers were not great research scholars, they were great teachers for whom I am indebted.
In our days, the talent search exam was considered to be a great thing. Presently, this scholarship is provided for Medicine and Engineering. But, nowadays students studying Engineering and Medicine are not bothered about the Talent Search Exam.
I always tell, we should show interest to find out solutions for the problems. We should make use of the students doing Under Graduate studies. We should not just get help from them, but it is important instigate their mind and provide advices towards it.
