Indian school of Mines University, Dhanbad offers UG and PG Engineering courses on Mines and Minerals.
Started by the central government in Kolkotta in the year 1926, the school obtained University status through the UGC act of 1967. From the academic year 1996 97 it directly came under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Dhanbad in Jharkand state is situated in the heart of the countrys prime coking coal belt, 260 kms from Kolkata with a campus spread over 88 hectares the fully residential institution has all the facilities of world class academic institute. With good alumni base all over the world, the school has links with reputed universities and institutes across the globe.
The serene campus comprises academic buildings, student hostels and 100% residential facilities for faculty and staff apart from other infrastructure facilities for a cosmopolitan community.
It get admission into this institute it is important to pass in the all India Entrance examination conducted by the institution. From 1997 persons passing IIT-JEE were also considered for admission into the mine school.

In the year 2009, 277 students were successful among 448 students, in 2008, out of 442 students 352 were successful, in 2007, 308 students were successful among 342 and in 2006, out of 335 students 257 students were successful.
