Every ancient city has a unique history. These historical events were not documented in those days. 

Nowadays, Archeology related studies help us to go back to ancient days and provide proper evidence for the historical events happened earlier. The term archeology originates from Greek word. "Archeous" means old things, "Logos" means scientific principles. 

Archeological survey of India:

To protect the ancient art traditions of India, the Archaeological Survey of India was founded in 1862.  Alexander Cunningham of Britain was the first director of this body. He ensured to create sound awareness about archeological survey. He is called as the father of Archeological survey. Based on Archeological Survey, India is segmented into 24 sectors.

Archeological Department:

The Archeological Department plays an important role in learning about the lifestyle of ancient people. It also helps to know more about the beliefs of ancient people, social and economic structure and environmental effects.

Function:

The function of ASI is to explore, excavate, conserve, preserve and protect the monuments and sites of National & International Importance.

It carries out research activities on culture of ancient people, practices, philosophies, architecture, artificial things and the appearance of the terrain. 

Archeology is the combination of history, geography, geology, chemistry, art and literature and anthropology. 

Archeological study is essential for systematic understanding of environment protection, town structure and urban community.

Eligibility:

1. For UG (Under Graduation) in Ancient History and Archeology plus two is enough.
2. For Diploma or PG Diploma or PG studies in Archeology should have scored 55% in UG studies.

Those involved in Archeological findings are called Archeologist. Fieldwork is the primary role of an archeologist. It involves digging ancient structures and categorizing it within the specified time. Further, they also find out the age and history of the excavated monument.
