ICS, IMU ink pact- 17-Feb-2010

Chennai:  The London-based Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Maritime University (IMU), which was formed under an Act of Parliament, to develop academic and educational cooperation between them.

The MoU was signed by ICS CEO and Managing Director Alan Philip and IMU Vice-Chancellor Dr P Vijayan in the presence of ICS Chennai Branch Chairman R Swaminathan at a function here last night which was graced by representatives involved in the Shipping Trade.

Apart from developing academic and educational cooperation,the MoU was aimed at promoting mutual understanding between the two leading Institutions to churn out quality workforce to the shipping industry.

Both the ICS and IMU would collaborate in academic areas of mutual interest through exchange of students and faculty, conducting lectures, organising symposia and exchange of academic information among other things. As per the MoU, qualified ICS professionals would visit the IMU and conduct qualifying examinations for its MBA students on even modules after when ICS memebership would be granted to them.

''The Internationally recognised ICS membership will enable students occupy higher positions in the Maritime Industry with very high professional standards.

''ICS membership is recognised as a mark of professionalism in the shipping business globally,'' Mr Philip and Mr Swaminathan claimed. The seven modules would provide the students industrial exposure to maritime sector and make them industry-ready for direct employability.

Describing it as a a momentous occasion, Dr Vijayan said the University would sign several MoUs with similar global institutions to enrich the knowledge of the students and make them thorough professionals.

very good, here the limitations should be certificate of competency from white listed countries + ICS qualified is the highest qualification for teaching in indian pre sea / post sea institutes,
