Chennai: For the benefit of Engineering students, The Vice Chancellor P. Mannar Jawahar inaugurated a three-day book exhibition at the Anna University, on Wednesday.

About 50 booksellers and publishing houses have set up stalls. The focus is on science and technology and a majority of the titles are on engineering and allied engineering subjects. The exhibition features a collection of close to three lakh titles.

G. Haresh, a third year manufacturing engineering student, said: 'Though I usually get books from a book bank, book exhibitions offer rare titles and it is easier to get technical books directly from the publishers.'

According to M. Shekar, Dean of an Engineering college, Guindy, book exhibitions on campuses also make it easier for the faculty to recommend quality books for the college library.

'There are several expensive reference books that an engineering student require, but would not be able to afford. Exhibition offers a forum for the faculty to recommend the latest editions for good reference texts to the library,' he said. Books will be offered at a discounted rate for students. The exhibition will be open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. till Friday.
