One thing that worries the entire world is environment safety. Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary academic field that integrates physical and biological sciences, to make a study of environment, and the solution of environmental problems.

It is an wonderful combination of natural science and social science. Pollution of Air, Noise, Land, the pollutants, means to curb pollution finds place in this study.
Most of the natural resources are at the verge of extinction.
 
Day-by-Day, the environmental standards are deteriorating. It is high time that awareness campaign on environment safety be held frequently. Taking all this into account, the study of Environmental Science is included in the curriculum right from the school level. This enables children to know about the climatic changes, Ozone layers and importance of forest.
 
Efforts of the Indian Government: Recognising the need of the hour, understanding the importance of Environmental safety, the central government has developed a separate department, " Ministry of Forest and Environment". This Ministry focuses on conserving the environment. The objective of this ministry is to conserve the forest, the flora and the fauna, to curb pollution, to indulge in a forestation.
India has also intergrated itself in the environment safety programmes of U.N., such as UNEP, SACEP, ICIMOD, UNCED. India strictly adheres to the guidelines set by the U.N., to safeguard the environment.

How to enter into this field ? Under Graduation course in Environmental Science is offered by most of the colleges across India. The basic qualification to enter into this course differs from college to college. One common qualification is that the aspirant must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology at the school level.
After schooling one can pursue Microbiology, BioChemistry in the undergraduation level. And can pursue Environmental Science, Bio Chemistry, Toxicology and Marine Biology in Post Graduation level.
Apart from this, the aspirant can also go for Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, Civil and Mining engineering. Geology and Hydrogeology are also studies related to Environmental Science. To get enrolled in masters degree one must have completed under graduation with atleast 50% aggregate.

Environmental Scientist: Environmental scientists look at pollution and other environmental problems and come up with solutions. They figure out what is in the air, water, and soil to make sure that the environment is safe. They also give advice on how to clean the environment. Environmental scientists work in laboratories and offices. Apart from working indoor they also carry out fieldwork taking measurements. Furthermore, they carry out research on radiation and its after effects, and try to find means to avert such accidents.


To excel in this field: To excel in the field of environmental science one must have keen interest in the greatest common issues of human beings. Should be an extrovert and efficient in rational approach to problems.
