Delhi: Travel by flight is considered even today as a symbol of status, similarly a job with aviation is also considered as a position with pride and pomp. So there is always a craze for Civil Aviation work.

Two important components of the Aviation industry are civil or commercial aviation and the military aviation. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is the nodal Ministry responsible for the formulation of national policies and programmes for development and regulation of Civil Aviation and for devising and implementing schemes for the orderly growth and expansion of civil air transport.
 
Its functions also extend to overseeing airport facilities, air traffic services and carriage of passengers and goods by air. Civil air regulations are enforced by the Director General of civil Aviation. Airlines, infrastructural department and airports are the major divisions of the civil aviation industry.
 
Important Depratments of the Airline Industry :
 
* Engineering Department : Engineers in the aeronautical, mechanical and electrical streams are appointed in the Engineering department of airlines. They are involved in maintaing the number of sophisticated components of a flight. Aeronautical engineers need to be mentally alert, must be able to think logically and analytically and must be innovative.
 
Educational Requirement : In order to become an aeronautical engineer, prospective candidates must complete a B.E., or B.Tech in that stream. Some of the IIT's offer degree and post-graduate degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
 
Job of a Commercial Pilot : The job of commercial pilot is the most glamorous and exciting job in aviation. It is highly rated and one of the most adventurous career which requires intensive training. This profession also demands a lot of time, dedication, patience and sacrifice.
 
A Career in Aviation attracts many youngsters as it provide opportunity to travel around the globe. This is a lucrative field. But apart from all those attractive things the job of a commercial pilot makes him responsible for the aircraft he flies and the lives of his passengers.
 
This is a highly specialised job which requires knowledge of air navigation, interpretation of meteorological reports, operations of sophisticated electronic and mechanical controls, leading the aircraft under adverse circumstances, and being a leader to the flight crew and passengers under climatic and other emergency situations.
 
Salary of a pilot is quite attractive. In the beginning the salary of a pilot is about Rs. 1 Lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh.
 
How to become a Commercial Pilot : Inorder to become a commercial pilot in India, you have to possess Student Pilot Licence ( SPL ). It is the first stage. An objective test that tests basic mathematics knowledge of the aircraft, engines and aerodynamics. Minimum passing marks is 75 out of a maximum of 100.
 
The SPL examination is held all over India by the Government Sponsored Flying Clubs. 23 flying clubs in India issue SPL. It can be obtained at the age of sixteen only. Private Pilot Licence : It is the second stage. It consists of practical and theory examinations.
 
The practical part consists of 40 hours of flying with instructor and 20 hours of solo flying. The theory paper tests the students knowledge about aircraft engines, air navigation, aviation meteorology and seamanship.
 
The prescribed age for appearing in this examination is 17 years and educational qualification of 10+2 along with Medical Fitness Certificate from AFCME or IAM.
 
Commercial Pilot Licence : You should have passed 10+2 exam with Physics and Mathematics and must be between the age of 18 - 30 years. You also need PPL with flying experience during the preceding 3 years. 250 hours of flying is necessary for obtaining a Commercial Pilot Licence.
 
Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence ( CHPL ) : The Commercial Helicopter Pilot License (CHPL) training makes up the first part of the Helicopter Pilot Training. CHPL provides the formal qualification to be able to establish a career within the commercial Helicopter industry.
 
The Commercial Helicopter Pilot License allows you to fly for hire. This is the core license needed to do any flying for compensation, such as flight instruction, sightseeing, cargo-carrying, rescue operations etc.
 
The focus of the training is mastery of the helicopter in maneuvers, night flight and extended cross-country trips.
 
Commercial Pilot's Licence Course and B.Sc., ( Aviation) :
 
( IGRUA ) : Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Academy - The Akademi functions under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Govt. of India (GOI) through its Governing Council (GC).
 
Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) located at Fursatganj District Raebareli Uttar Pradesh, is an autonomous body under the control of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
