Govt ties up with US universities for IFS officers' training- 19-Aug-2010

New Delhi: With the intention to raise the competence of Indian Forest Service Officers in the areas of environmental policy and forestry management, the Indian government has tied up with some universities in the USA to provide Mid-Career Training to the officers.

Through the partnership, the Mid Career Training to the officers is expected to improve their professional skills.

Mid Career Training is mandatory at various levels for Indian Forest Service Officers in their career progression as per Indian Forest Services (IFS) Pay Rules.

The training will be conducted at the Indian Institutes of Management (IMM) or the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun and for two weeks in selected foreign universities.

The six universities selected for the training programme include Colorado State University, University of Yale and University of Syracuse.

The training institutes have been selected through global bidding after necessary technical and financial evaluation of the bids. The estimated cost for three years is Rs.56.70 crore.
