The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), a well-known management institute located in Mumbai, offers a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme.

 
Test Structure:
Students need to have a Bachelors degree from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks aggregate in any discipline. Final year students can also apply.
 
The test has five sections, each carrying 40 questions. The level of difficulty of the questions varies from tough, moderate to easy. There is no section-wise time limit.
 
The examination was held on December 10 in 2006. The test Centres for the written exam are in different places.
 
Test Details
Section 1: Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

This section comprised questions based on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension.
Last year, the Verbal Ability questions included Sentence Correction (4 questions), Synonyms (4 questions), Fill in the Blanks (4 questions), Analogies (2 questions), Jumbled Paragraphs (4 questions), Antonyms (4 questions) and Identifying meaning of Idioms (2 questions).
 
The Reading Comprehension questions were based on 3 passages. Of the 16 questions asked, 11 were easy and 6 were of medium level of difficulty. Quite a few questions were partially indirect.
Ideally one should attempt 25+ questions in 30 minutes.
 
Section 2: Quantitative Aptitude
There were questions based on Numbers (5), Profit and Loss (4), Simple Interest and Compound Interest (3), Time Speed and Distance (6), Percentages (3), Ratio Proportion and Variation (3), Pipes & Cistern (1), Geometry (4), Set Theory (1), Logarithm (1) and Advance Math (3). The questions on Geometry were difficult. 50% of the questions were difficult.
Ideally one could attempt 20+ questions in 35 minutes.
 
Section 3: Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency and Data Redundancy
The DI questions were of average level of difficulty with sets based on Tables, Line Graphs, Bar Graph + Line Graph and Pie Chart + Table. In most cases, the initial questions of the DI sets were simple while the later questions in the same set were calculation based. The Data sufficiency questions included 2 statements as well as 3 statements. They were based on quantitative aptitude and were quite easy. There were 3 questions on Data Redundancy (3 statements).
 
Ideally one could attempt 21+ questions in 30 minutes.
 
Section 4: Intelligence and Logical Reasoning
This section comprises questions based on Logical Reasoning and Critical Reasoning.
The Logical Reasoning questions included Missing Data, Number Coding, Matrix Arrangements, Groups and conditionalities, Family Tree and Numerical and Logical Puzzles.
Most of the questions were easy except a set on groups and conditionalities that was of medium level of difficulty.
From 6 Critical Reasoning (CR) questions in 2005, the number of questions were tricky and of a different nature. All 5 questions on strong and weak arguments were easy. The set on Probably Definitely true/false contained 4 questions. The set comprised a passage, the comprehension of which was a bit time-consuming.
Ideally one could attempt 24+ questions in 35 minutes.
 
Section 5: General Awareness:
They were from varied and diverse fields like:
  • International organizations like the UNO, G-8 etc.
  • Sports
  • Awards (Bharat Ratna, Golden Peacock)
  • Financial institutions (ICICI, Bank of Baroda etc.)
  • Literature (books-authors)
  • The Planning Commission
  • The Election Commission
  • Union Budget and Taxation, etc.
The overall nature of the questions was easy for only those who would have read the daily newspapers thoroughly.
Ideally one should attempt 25-27 questions in 20 minutes.
 
Desired Performance:
A good performance in this test will be an attempt of 110+ questions. Students with a 90+ score can expect a call from NMIMS.
