PGCET is a Post Graduate Common Entrance Test for admission into the First year, First semester of Full Time and Part Time courses in Master of Business Administration in government College, University Departments and the private unaided institutions affiliated to the following Universities Bangalaore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumukur, Bijapur Womens University and Visvesvaraya Technologycal University, within the state of Karnataka. This year PGCET was held on 1st July 2007.
 
Eligibility
Admission to MBA & MCA courses shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree examinations with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. The candidates applying for part-time course in MBA must have worked for not less than three years in an establishment and must be working in an organization within a radial distance of 40 km form the institution in which the candidates seeks admission. There are, however, certain eligibility criteria that are different for the fulltime MBA and MCA programmes.
As with most other entrance tests, students in their final year of graduation are also eligible to appear for the PGCET.
The application forms are available only on the websites www.vtu.ac.in and www.pgcet.vtu.ac.in. Application fee for the test was Rs.600/- in 2007 (Rs.300/- for SC/ST/Cat I on production of documentary proof). The completed application form, DD and Annexure-Postal Address with all necessary enclosures is to be sent only by Registered A/D Post or Speed Post or to be handed over in person at the given address in the Brochure.
 
Test Structure
The PGCET, 2007 was a120-minute test comprising 100 questions (1 mark each with no negative marking) spread across two parts of two sections each.
Selection Procedure
For both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka candidates, admission is based solely on marks obtained in the PGCET. However, the Karnataka candidates are eligible for admission under the following category seats:
  1. Government Seats both reserved by the private institutions.
  2. Management Seats if surrendered by the private institutions.
Note:
Non-Karnataka candidates are also eligible for admission to Management seats.
 
The candidates are allowed to select seats in the order of their merit during the seat of which is announced along with the publication of Merit list. Candidates called for MBA a DD of the amount same as the first year tuition fee.
The instructional booklet, available on www.pgcet.vtu.ac.in has the Syllabus and model question paper of the test.
