Though, Tamil Nadu has proposed to incorporate Value Education or Moral Education as a subject with a structured curriculum pattern and proper evaluation scheme, it is yet to become a reality.

In the present scenario, with growing number crimes orchestrated and executed by educated individuals, it has become a must to educate children right from the school level through Moral Education or Value education as a specialized subject. Not just merely being a subject, taught values must to fuse into the mind of students to become 'a second nature' that would act as a guiding force in life.

In fact, today some schools do have a specific period, but not as a mainstream subject. To add the time spent during the period rises eyebrows.  However, in contrast, many schools the across the state even do not have such a period allotted to imbibe values. In this circumstances, from where will these children learn values, when our diverse society comprises of varied value systems. School alone can be a hub to imbibe neutral value system.

Increase in crimes by educated, ineffective moral science curriculum and absence of such a subject in the curriculum has led to bring in value education as a mainstream subject with proper curriculum and structured evaluation at least until class X.

Apart from having Moral Education or Value Education as a mainstream subject, it is also important to orient all teachers to handle the subject with the importance of the education and need to empower them with uniform value system. Again disparity in value system will bring in confusion among children on the right values. For example value system in certain districts of the state differ from value system of other districts. Cultural differences should not be hindrance in implementing uniform values among children across the state.  State School Education department need to take an appropriate stand regarding uniform implementation.

Tight schedules and lack of time for teachers should not deter any educator to give a word to a child who has missed the mark and requires counsel ling to get back in the right track.

It is already high time to take a concrete stand about this grave issue that is  splaying across the lengths and breadths of the state.

Good and long term results are certainly possible if the curriculum is planned after obtaining opinions from anthropologists, psychologists, sociologists, educationists and behavioral science experts.
