Things Never to Include on Your Resume- 3-Dec-2014

Font Size :

A resume is the most important tool towards getting that new dream job of your desire. It speaks volumes about the person to the prospective employer. It provides the employers first impression of you that needs to be presented in the best light. As a result, there are a few important things that should never be put on a resume.

Incomprehensible objective:
Be more realistic than trying to be over ambitious or humorous. Never state outrageous objectives of possing the aim of becoming hanchos like Bill Gates or Anil Ambani or TATA's or Birla's. Certainly it will do no good to get you hired or admired.

Save the personality insights for the interview.

Irrelevant job experience:
Dont jumble up your resume with odd jobs that youve had unless theyre in the same field that youre trying to acquire now. Divulging the fact that you tended in a bar one summer wont help you get that accounting job!

On the other hand, revealing that you managed cash counter in a restuarent during school holidays could help you get an accounting job. Unless theyre the only jobs youve ever held, be selective on what you list.

Avoid Trivial awards:
No employer cares about you winning eating contest or fancy dress contests. Might as well it could be the fact that you were one of the best dancers in school or college. But, all these facts would make interesting lunchroom conversation if youre hired, but these facts need not be placed on your resume.
Instead, business awards or recognition for community service should be listed. Being recognized as a Top Salesman or as Road Safety Volunteer is something that could favorably influence a prospective employer.

Pictures:
Under no circumstances should any job-seeker enclose pictures of any kind with their resume.

In exception, professional photographers can submit portfolios of their work to prospective clients, and actors, actresses, and some photo-journalists also can to include images.

Next, attaching your picture on a resume is considered unprofessional. A picture of you could trigger an unconscious negative reaction on the part of the prospective employer, who just might not like your hair style or the tie colour combination that youre wearing in the photo.

Never share personal ideas:

Any information that deals with your personal opinions or philosophies should never be shared on a resume or in an interview. The applicants religious viewpoint, and political affiliation are not relevant to the hiring procedure and shouldnt be brought up or offered for discussion.
Avoid personal information:

Dont disclose any banking data on the resume; you never know where itll end up. Unfortunately, your resume could end up in trash, which could then end up in the wrong hands.

Extravagant vocabulary:
Attempting to be over smart for your own good is a real outcome of trying to impress someone with your vocabulary on your resume. Never use a fancy words if a simple one will do. All that the content in the resume requires is to clearly communicate about you rather than showing off your flamboyant language style or vocabulary. Those who are viewing your resume will toss it in the trash instead of reaching out for a dictionary.

Dont use garish materials:
All that requires in a resume is that your words must make you stand out to the reader. Only fifth graders (or an exotic dancer) would prefer to use  colored paper, glitter, frilly fonts, scents, feathers, or anything but words on quality paper to get them noticed by a potential employer. Use of such materials on the resume attract to get passed around the HR office and chuckled at before its thrown, unread, in the circular file.
