Technical skills: Only few courses in Arts and Science are very much desired by many. One important reason is that it gets over in three years.  However, job opportunities for those completing Arts and Science studies are little less.

Still, many choose courses like B.Com that has stiff competition among students for admission.  In such a situation, getting a job as an accountant is chiefly because of the Software Packages that had been earlier developed by IT.  Unquestionably, IT is a domain that has always been wanted.
Today, students of Arts and Science make it into IT segment. However, Engineering students are more preferred for development and technical purposes.   As a result, engineering studies gives more importance towards software and technical skills.

Beyond IT, Engineering courses like Civil, Mechanical, Automobile, and Aeronautical play a significant role in providing good job opportunities.  Lots of engineering graduates are required for Prime Ministers Make in India programme.   Currently, since the fees for engineering studies are reasonable, it may not be a big economic burden on the parents.

Challenges and Success: Nowadays, more number of students from the villages is making it to the city for pursuing engineering studies.  It stands as a challenge to the Government and Private colleges, to equip these students from rural background with communication skills, technical skills and employability skills in par with other students from the urban society. Colleges are also taking ample steps to fulfill such a task.  In India, number of colleges could also be quoted as the chief reason for the boom in IT segment.

New Studies: Beyond core engineering studies, since many new courses are being desired by the students, the government has instructed colleges to offer these courses. Apart from core engineering courses, new courses are being offered even in the new engineering colleges that have come up in the last five years.  Furthermore, to increase research activities in the nation, to encourage students pursue research, the government has devised several plans and allotted huge amount of funds.
