Bangalore: Former President A P J Abdul Kalam asked students to leave the beaten track and undertake tasks that are believed to be impossible.

"One can become unique by leaving the beaten track and doing the impossible. Students must strive to become unique," he said at the golden jubilee celebrations of M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) here.

Citing examples of distinguished personalities like Vikram Sarabhai, M S Swaminathan and Srinivasa Ramanujan, Kalam asked the students to exceed the limits of imagination and create a unique identity for themselves.

Recalling his interaction with 12 million youth during his tenure as President, Kalam said "you (students) must fight the hardest battle and not give up till you win it."

On his vision for India in 2020, Kalam said he was looking at a nation where not only the urban-rural divide will be reduced but also a "nation where governance is responsible and corruption-free. A nation devoid of terrorism and one that is proud of its leadership".
