New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) announced it will soon launch a one-year diploma course on child rights.

The one-year diploma course, to be started by IGNOU's School of Law (SOL) in collaboration with child rights NGO PRAYAS, is designed to offer specialised training on issues of the country's juvenile justice system and child protection, Dr V N Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, said.

"It would also be useful for the professionals already working on child-related issues to further develop the much needed skills as well as identification of the appropriate resources and treatment plans available in the community," Dr Pillai said in a statement.

The course would be of one year duration, wherein eight papers (seven theoretical and one practical) would be taught. The practical aspect would cover the internship in observation homes, child welfare committees and NGOs.

According to Dr Pillai, experts from IGNOU, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Home Affairs, UNICEF, PRAYAS, Jamia Millia Islamia's Department of Social Work and Save the Children (NGO) are working on the study material of the course.
