Aligarh: A team of CBI officials visited the campus of Aligarh Muslim University and questioned some senior officials in connection with the ongoing probe by the agency against Vice-Chancellor Abdul Aziz.

Professor Aziz was out of town when the CBI officials visited the campus yesterday, University sources said.

The central agency, which has been given three-month time to complete the investigations, is expected to submit its preliminary report soon, they said.

On July 26, a CBI probe was ordered against the V-C on charges of alleged financial irregularities at the University.

Meanwhile, the AMU Teacher's Association took out a procession demanding that the special meeting of the AMU's executive council, which is scheduled to meet in New Delhi on September 17, be "called off".

The meeting has been called to prepare a panel of five names for appointing a successor of Professor Aziz as his present term is "coming to an end within three months".

"The teachers are strongly opposing to hold the meet because it would be chaired by Professor Aziz, who will be in a position to influence the choice of his successor," Mustafa Zaidi, Secretary of the Association, said.
