Over 800 students take part in Gandhi Art and Writing Contest- 19-Sep-2011

Edison (US): More than 800 students from middle and high schools in New Jersey participated in an essay and art competition on Mahatma Gandhi.

This is the eighth year of the "Mahatma Gandhi Art and Writing Contest", an event to propagate the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi on peace, non violence and racial harmony in the US, organised by Association of Indians in America, South Jersey Chapter.
 
"The finalists will be recognised in front of live audience at a gala function on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birthday and will be awarded a certificate of accomplishment and the top three in each category from Middle and High School will also receive cash awards ranging from USD 150 to USD 300," said Anwar Feroz Siddiqi, President, AIA-SJ.
 
The 2011 Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary celebrations and award ceremony will be held at the Princeton University in New Jersey.
 
Upendra Chivukula, deputy speaker of NJ Assembly, Dr Paul B Winkler, Executive Director of New Jersey Commission on  Holocaust Education and others have commended the organisation  for taking the lead to conduct the contest.
