P Srinath—student of Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Public School in Thanjavur and the state topper in SSLC public exam conducted this year—aims to become a scientist, drawing inspiration from former president of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

With an astounding score of 497 (of the total 500), the lad from the public school in Ramaswamy Nagar (Thanjavur) secured the top spot in the state and createed a record of sorts. His subject-wise marks were Tamil – 97, English – 100, Science – 100, Maths – 100 and Social Science – 100.

Prakash and Vijaylakshmi are his parents. His father, Prakash works as an assistant manager in a State Bank of India branch in Madurai. His elder brother Venkat Prasanna is pursuing BTech Engineering in Kings College in Thanjavur.

On his achievement, Srinath said: “I had been studying in this school since the eighth grade. Here at the school, right from the start, I had been acquiring training in the ways to secure the top place. They chose high-scoring students and additional interest and training were given. At the same time, instead of forcing people to study and bombarding them with lessons, they encouraged us to study whenever we felt like to.”

“I revised my lessons the day they were taught without fail. I followed the instructions provided my teachers. That helped me secure the state first place. Thanks to the encouragement provided by my parents and teachers, I was able to accomplish this feat. Thanks to them.”
