100 students not getting financial aid for last six years- 2-Apr-2012

Puducherry: About 100 students from coastal villages in neighbouring Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, studying in schools here not been getting their educational allowance from the Tsunami Relief sanctioned by PMO for the past six years, a children's rights movement said here.
   
M A Segar,convenor of 'Neithal Community Children`s  Rights Movement' (movement for protection of rights of fishermen's families in coastal hamlets) told newsmen today that 100 children hit by the December 2004 tsunami were not being  given financial aid for the last six years.
   
Segar said his organisation had approached authorities in Villupuram for aid from Prime Minister`s Relief assistance for the children, but were told it was for authorities here to give them aid as they are studying in the union territory.
  
But authorities here mantain that they could not assist them as the children are residing in Villupuram district.
  
Of Rs 28.8 crore released by the Centre for educational assistance, only Rs 9.01 crore had been spent, Segar said, adding each child is to get Rs 300 a month as assistance.
