Chandigarh: In the wake of the death of a six-year-old boy in an accident involving a school van, the Yamunanagar District Administration in Haryana has recommended de-recognition of a private school in the district.

Aman, a student of M D V M School in Ledi, was killed while another student, Akshay, sustained serious injuries when the school's pick-up van, carrying 20 children, rammed into a tree. The driver was later arrested by police.

Yamunanagar Deputy Commissioner Ashok Sangwan said that during investigations it was found that the school did not fulfil various norms mandatory for school buses and recommended that the educational institution be de-recognised.

He announced that Rs 1 lakh would be given to Aman's kin and Rs 25,000 to Akshay's family.

The families of two children who sustained minor injuries would be given Rs 10,000 each from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, he added.
