The Indian Institute of Science situated at Bangalore is considered to be the best institution for Postgraduate studies and Researches.
In this institute 2000 students study, 400 teachers serve and 48 departments function. In the year 1893, Jamshed G Tata met Vivekananda. He contemplated then on augmenting an educational institution of international standard to provide higher education in science. For which the then Mysore Maharaja Krishna Raja donated land. Tata took up the responsibility of building the infrastructure of the institution.
In the year 1911, the foundation for IISC was laid. Then the Government of Karnataka also donated land to this institution. At present it functions across the span of 443 acres of land at Bangalore.

Within IISC campus 6 canteens, three mess, one hotel and two shopping centers are functioning. There are nine hostels for men and five hostels for girls. Those who want to study M.Tech or ME in IISC must pass GATE examinations. Those who want to study MBA must pass GMAT. However, it is essential to be successful in group discussion and interview.
NASCOM president Sri. Laksmi Narayanan, Atomic Scientist Mr. Chidambaram, Mr. Satish Tawan, the former Director of ISRO were the past students of IISC. Mr. Satish Tawan and Sir. C. V. Raman, the renowned scientist, were the Directors of
IISC.
