Chennai: In order to encourage sports in the state, Tamil Nadu Govt. has increased the seats allotted under sports quota from 100 to 500.
This new initiative will be put in practice right from this academic year onwards.
According to the government press release, distinguished sports persons who have won medals at international, national, state and district levels are entitled to seek admission through this allotment.
The Chief Minister in her statement said that this effort would not only excite sports persons, also would encourage more youths to take up sports.
Earlier, the state government had increased the prize money to be awarded to medal winners at Olympics, Asian, Commonwealth, SAF and National games.
