Modi launches ambitious computer literacy campaign- 5-Jul-2012

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra launched an ambitious campaign for computer literacy among the youth.
    
For just Rs 50, it promises a basic course to develop computer skills to everyone who is 14-years-old or above and has passed standard 5th in Gujarat.
    
After inaugurating eMPOWER, the course introduced by the employment and labour department of the state, the Chief Minister claimed that within few hours of launch of the online registration, 1.04 lakh youths had registered themselves.
    
"Out of this 84 per cent are from rural area, and more then 35,000 are women," he said.
    
eMPOWER scheme training by certified experts from Microsoft will be made available in 620 institutes across the state, including ITI centers, employment offices and skill development centers, a government press release said.
 
"Women, members of Scheduled Castes, and BPL card holders, physically challenged persons and people from the economically weaker sections can avail this training without any charges," it added.
