Studying by distance learning (extramurally) has become increasingly popular with students throughout the world.

Studying by distance at Massey University allows you to gain an internationally recognised university qualification and improve your career options while still balancing your commitments: work, family and home. We are New Zealands leading university for distance learning.

Join approximately 14,000 other Massey students each year who study by distance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

International students wishing to study via distance learning should in the first instance contact the International Office for advice.

Once you have enrolled your study materials will be made available to you. This normally happens at least one week prior to the start of the semester.

How these materials are delivered to you will depend on the course you have enrolled in. The materials will either be posted to you or made available through our online learning environment (known as Stream) in electronic form.

For distance students the number of courses you can take depends on your other commitments. You will need to spend approximately 10 to 12.5 hours each week for a 15 credit single semester course, or about 5 to 6.25 hours per week for a 15 credit double semester course. If you are working full time (or have a young family that you look after full time), we recommend that you take no more than 30 credits (two courses) in a semester.
