A general view prevails amidst the youngsters that a mere communication ability would find a job for them.
In the present scenario, our job counsellors often use the word 'employable'. What is 'employable'? It gives the meaning to offer employment. The word can also be taken to mean that an organization identifies the skills a person possesses to employ them. But, do the employable skills point to mere communicative skills alone?
Recently, the 'Purple Leaf' organization conducted a research survey in 100 colleges. It was understood that 80% of students possessing very good communicative skills did not have the other employable skills. Today, the counsellors talk more about those 'Transferrable Skills' in a person of an organization to make him take up work in some other organization. Besides, it is believed that a person desirous of getting a job in a particular field should not only have the skills related to that field but also the technical skills. These are the essential talents to procure good jobs.
The 'Transferrable Skills' denote the Thinking, Behavioral and Adapting skills.
Thinking Skills
Today business is packed with hordes of challenges. With innumerable information, those who serve as Business Managers have to take important decisions. Hence, the organizations choice of selection for this post is for those with adept thinking and adroit action. Information has different dimensions. Based on this, scopes are scrutinized and accordingly the service products are released.
Similarly, the Business Managers are in compulsion to investigate and analyze the problems and then arrive at conclusions.
Behavioural Skills
These skills denote the interest a person shows in accepting new jobs in the work-place. Moreover, it also indicates the consideration of a person to renew himself again and again.
This also shows the alertness of a person about the progression of the organization at any circumstance. It also points to the love and affinity of a person for his job. To undertake any work willingly is identified to be a healthy skill. These skills display how a person plans to reach his objectives and how he tries to eliminate the hurdles he visualizes in his progressive journey.
Adapting Skills
These skills designate how a person maintains his relationship with his colleagues, customers and Management. A person with good relationship with his colleagues can be seen having good communicative skills.
Apart from having good communicative skills, if he is observant of the surroundings and with awareness about others feelings, this can be accepted as 'Adapting Skills'. This includes Communicative skill as well as the adaptablity to ork along with others.
The 'Purple Leaf' research has found out that generally 70% of people are backward in the Thinking Skills. This is the basic skill essential for the technical jobs. It is found out that more than 50% of the students did not have the capacity to acquire this skill. The Purple Leaf has informed that about 30% of these students can attain this skill through good training.
