Biomedical Engineering is a study that contributes towards the development of medical sciences with the advancement of Engineering and Technology.

We can also say that Biomedical Engineering acts bridge between Engineering studies and Medical studies.  Instruments such as ECG, Ultra sound that we see in hospitals are all the creation of Biomedical Engineering.

Apart from using Engineering functionality towards the development of medical technology, this is an Engineering branch that invites novel ideas to take the medical field to the next level.

Subjects in branch of study: Biomedical Electronics, Biomechanical, Biomaterials, Genetic Engineering, Bioinstrumentation, Computer modeling and Medical imaging.

Required skill & knowledge:  Skills that are necessary to do well in this field are..to have good understanding about the modern treatment methods in the field of medicine and the innovativeness to devise new equipments to substantiate towards the field of medicine.

Eligibility:  To join the four year course of Biomedical Engineering, one should have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics in plus two.

Important institutions: IIT-Mumbai, IIT-Delhi,  IIT-Roorkee, Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka, All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi.

Job opportunities: Biomedical Engineers role is highly important to develop newer equipments required for the medical field and ensure the seamless functioning of the equipments.

As this is an area involve Biology and Medicine along with Engineering, job opportunities are available in manufacturing units of these medical related equipments as well as in companies that develop software for these equipments.

Biomedical engineers are most needed in multispecialty hospitals to maintain the medical equipments in foreign countries. Job opportunities are also available in cells and tissue research centers.

Future: Researchers view that this area of specialization is likely to see a phenomenal growth in the next 50 years, as there is an enormous need for more development in the field of medical technology as well as much need for newer developments and to sustain it without any problem.
