The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences was established on the 2nd. January, 1995 through Legislative Act. i.e. West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences Act-VI, 1995. The University was mainly established to give emphasis on Education, Research and Extension in the field of Veterinary & Animal Science, Dairy Technology and Fishery sciences. Prior to establishment of this University, the century old Bengal Veterinary College, established in the year 1893 at this campus, used to impart the veterinary education for the State.
