Chennai: Five certificate courses to be offered by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University through Open and Distance Learning mode on agricultural enterprises for the progressive farmers and urban dwellers.

The courses are landscaping and ornamental gardening, nursery technology, commercial horticulture, modern weed management and soil fertility management.

The courses will focus on people who are deprived of formal education in agriculture.

Those who can read and write English are eligible to join the course.

The programme in landscaping and ornamental gardening will cover topics on identification of suitable plants for outdoors, landscaping principles, style of gardening, and importance of irrigation, utility of fountains, ponds and waterfalls.

Nursery technology course will deal with preparation and layout of nursery beds, seed treatment, soil sterilization aspects, propagation methods, laying and bedding, maintenance and display of plants.
