The Jawaharlal Institue of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has invited applications for its entrance examination for asmission to the first-year MBBS course starting in July. Appllicants should be resident Indian nationals. They should have completed 17 years as aon December 31, 2008. One can submit an online application by accessing the website www.jipmer.edu upto March 27.

The prospectus and application form can also be had from teh Professor (Academic) JIPME, Puducherry - 605 006 up tp March 27 through a postal request accompained by a MICR bank draft for Rs.500 (Rs.400 for SC/ST) drawn in favour of Accounts Officer JIPMER, payable at any nationalised bank in Puducherry. A 10X7 self-addresses label must accompany the postal request.
 
Online applicants should first obtain a demand draft as cited above and take aprintout of teh online application form, provide all details and signature and photograph and send it along woth teh draft by speed Post to teh Professor (Acadmeic) sos as to reach him by March 31. The entrance examination will be held on June 8 at Thiruvanathapuram, Chennai, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Kolkata and New Delhi. It comprises multiple -choice-type quesitons for 200 marsk in English, Physics, Chemistry, botany and zoology. Each corredct answer will be awarded one mark. there is no negative marking for wrong answers.

JIPMER MBBS ADMISSION PROCEDURE
JIPMER conducts entrance examination on all India basis and only merit in the Entrance Examination is the criterion for selection to 46 seats (including 20 reserved for locals). Eleven seats are filled on merit from all India Test conducted by CBSE.
Government of India nominees are selected by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi according to set criterion.
 
Total Seats for MBBS: JIPMER admits 75 (seventy five only) students to each batch of MBBS course, yearly once. They are available to eligible students as per the reservations under various categories, detailed below.
 
For Pondicherry natives: 20 (5 for Scheduled castes + 15 any others)
For students of other states: 26 (8 for Scheduled castes + 4 for Scheduled tribes + 14 for others)
Common All India Entrance Test by CBSE (AIPMT) : 11
Central Government Nominations: 18
No seats are earmarked for Non-Resident Indians (no NRI quota)
 
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for JIPMER - MBBS 2007:
  • Nationality: The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National and should have studied in schools located in India in the preceding two (2) years except for those admitted against the seats reserved for foreign students who are nominees of the Government of India.
    Age: Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31 st December, 2007 i.e. they should have been born on or before 1 ST JANUARY 1991. This age limit will also apply to the candidates nominated by the Government of India. Request for relaxation from the prescribed age limit will not be considered.
  • Educational Qualifications: Candidates for admission to the M.B.B.S. course should have passed the qualifying examination as under:

(a) The Higher Secondary Examination (or) the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination after a period of 12 year study, the last 2 years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Education Research and Training after the introduction of 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education and must have passed in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Botany & Zoology at the qualifying examination. For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination will be 40%.
(b) The candidates who have passed the qualifying examination other than those mentioned in the list appended in Annexure-I will have to submit an eligibility certificate from the Pondicherry University before admission is finalized.

  • Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2007 and whose results have not yet been declared can also apply for admission, if they are otherwise eligible. They will, however, be admitted to the Institute only if they satisfy the requirement at Para 3.1., 3.2 and 3.3 above.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidates to ascertain whether they possess the requisite qualifications for admission. Having been called for written test / counseling does not necessarily mean acceptance of the eligibility. Eligibility for admissions in doubtful cases will be decided in consultation with the Pondicherry University .

JIPMER 2007 MBBS Entrance Exam Dates
JIPMER Entrance Examination will be conducted on Sunday the 27th May, 2007 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m

 
All the candidates who have applied for admission and are found eligible will be required to take the Entrance Examination at their own cost. The examination will be conducted at the following Centres viz. 1.PUDUCHERRY, 2.CHENNAI, 3.HYDERABAD, 4.DELHI, 5.KOLKATA and 6.THIRUVANANTHAPURAM on SUNDAY the 27 th May 2007. The Examination Centre, once opted by the applicant will not be changed by correspondence, after the receipt of the application.
 
How to Apply:
The last date and time for receipt of duly filled in applications in the enclosed prescribed form in all respects is 28th March 2007 ( 4.30 PM ) Wednesday . Candidates can also download the Prospectus and submit the application ONLINE. However, they should take a print out in A4 Size Paper and affix his/her Photograph and sign the application and send the same alongwith the Demand Draft (Rs.350/- for General Candidates and Rs.250/- for SC/ST Candidates drawn in favour of the ACCOUNTS OFFICER, JIPMER, PUDUCHERRY, the Demand Draft should be drawn on any Nationalized Bank) payable at Puducherry (Pondicherry) and attested copy of Community Certificate in case of SC/ST candidates and Medical Certificate in case of Physically Handicapped (if applicable), so as to reach this office on or before 28 th March 2007 (4.30 PM) Wednesday.

Before sending the application to this Institute, the applicants are advised to check the D.D., whether it contains the number, date, value, Favourers Designation & address, Authoritys Signature and Drawees Branch with code number. If it is found defective in any manner, the same will not be considered and Admit Card will not be sent. Name, address and application number should be written on the reverse of the demand draft.

Those candidates who are applying in the pre-printed application forms obtained from this Institute through post or in person have to send the filled in application form along with Acknowledgement Card duly filling their address so as to reach this office on or before 28th March 2007 (4. 30 PM) (Wednesday).

The following certificates (if applicable) should be enclosed (should not be stapled with application):-
Attested copy of Community Certificate in case of S.C/S.T. candidates.
Attested copy of Medical Certificate in case of Physically Handicapped candidates with locomotor disability of lower limb between 50% and 70%.
JIPMER 2007 MBBS Entrance Exam Syllabus
JIPMER does not prescribe any syllabus for Entrance Examination. However, it is based on CBSE syllabus for 11th and 12th standard students.
JIPMER 2007 MBBS Entrance Exam Pattern
The Entrance Examination will be of multiple choice type questions totaling 200 in the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded one mark. Zero Mark will be given for the question not answered. More than one answer indicated against a question, will be deemed as incorrect response and no mark will be given.
 
There is no NEGATIVE MARKING. The model of the question of the Entrance Examination is given in Annexure-III.
The correct answer in the answer sheet should be blackened with Black Ball Point Pen.
NOTE: General standard of the Entrance Examination will be that of CBSE standard or any other equivalent examination of an Indian University/Board. No specific syllabus for the examination has been prescribed by this Institute.

Introduction:
Applications are invited form Resident Indian Nationals with M.B.B.S. Degree, who have completed or due to complete internship (rotatory horsemanship) training by 31-3-2008.

Prospectus and application forms are available on cash payment only, at BANK OF BARODA, Extension counter basement of Administrative Building, Jipmer.
Prospectus and application forms can also be had form Professor (Academic), Jipmer, Puducherry 605 006 on or before 15-12-2007 by postal request, accompanied by a Demand Draft for Rs. 750/- (Unreserved) and Rs. 600/- (SC, ST) issued by any Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of Accounts officer JIPMER, payable at Puducherry.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for JIPMER PG Courses 2008:
  • Should have passed MBBS Degree or equivalent and recognized by Medical Council of India and Pondicherry University.
  • Must have completed Internship on or before March.
  • Should be a Resident Indian National.
    Institute Category Seats are available for students of this JIPMER Institute only.
  • SC/ST category seats are open to all Indian Nationals belonging to that category.  
  • Reservation for Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates, if any, would be communicated through Newspaper advertisement / JIPMER website as and when the Government Order for the same is issued.
