Font Size :

For the past few months, the public sector insurance organizations are announcing job opportunities for the Officers' cadre.

Following the National Insurance and United India Insurance companies, another premier organization, the New India Assurance Company has announced a number of vacancies for the Officers cadre.  Right from the raw graduates upto the Engineering graduates, many are quite keen to apply for these posts.  However, many have the doubt as to how to prepare for the competitive examination conducted for selection.

This job selection examination is like the Bank's BO examinations, comprising only the objective type questions.  From which areas questions will be asked?

  • Test of Reasoning
  • Test of Quantitative Techniques
  • Test of English Language
  • Test of General Knowledge

These are the four sections of questioning.

In the Reasoning Section, though questions concerning Verbal Reasoning, Logical Aptitude are asked, it is advised to get prepared for the Non-verbal Reasoning questions also.  Since the Reasoning portion tests the minute knowledge of the students, year after year new type of questions are generated and asked.  Hence, besides the basic training by studying good books, additional training may be acquired through the monthly magazines.  As regards Reasoning, R.S. Agarwals reasoning books are the best ones. This is recommended as the Aptitude testing book in the Engineering colleges.  While buying the book, one has to see whether it includes the Non-verbal reasoning portion also.

Edgar Thorpes book 'Mental Ability' is a good help to understand the basics of Reasoning.  Further, by buying Kiran Publications 'Practice Guide' book, one can take up practice.  R.S. Agarwals book is available for Mathematics also.  In addition to this, the Mathematics book published by Tata-McGraw Hill can also be used.  For the English section,  one can take the help of BSC Publications English is Easy.  But, for practice Kiran Pblications book alone offers good help.

For the General Knowledge section, the book published by Arihant Publications can be bought.  Added to this, one can go in for O.P. Khanna's 'General Knowledge Refresher'.

If, to know the basics is the first step in the Officer level competitive examination, daily practice alone confirms your success.  The scope of success becomes lesser to those who know the basics but have not practised and to those who carry on wrong practices without the knowledge of the fundamentals.  So, atleast 2 months' practice in all sections must be carried on daily. A few months ago, in an examination conducted for a job in LIC, questions related to LIC were asked.  Hence, information regarding General Insurance sector must also be collected for the examination.

Do not lose your interest in the preparation of examination by the unnecessary panic to answer the initial 50 questions within the stipulated time.  You can gain speed in a week or 10 days time.  So, do not worry about this.

In cities like Madurai, self-motivated young persons join as groups, prepare for the competitive examination and enjoy astounding success.  They also get training in special institutes.  You are sure to be successful if you choose any one of these two.
