The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility of Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship or both, for Indian Universities and Colleges.

Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), UGC-NET is held twice every year.

UGC conducts NET in 101 studies including Economics / Rural Economics /Co-operation / Demography / Development Planning/ Development Studies / Econometrics/ Applied economics/Development Eco./Business Economics / Political Science / Philosophy / Psychology / Sociology / History / Anthropology / Commerce / Education / Social Work .

Eligibility: Should have obtained 55% in Post Graduation. Maximum age limit to apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is 30. There is no age limit for those applying for Assistant Professor.

This examination comprises two papers for 300 marks. The first paper carries 50 marks and the second paper is for 150 marks.

Correct answers carries 2 marks, however there is no negative marking for wrong answers.

Questions of the first paper, tests the role of a teacher, as well as the knowledge to carry out research. The second paper comprises of questions from the candidates specialized subject.

Duration of the exam is 3 hours.
