Going back to schools and colleges for regular education seem to be a distant dream, as currently both school as well as college education are being carried only through online due to the existing pandemic situation.

In this situation, Data Science, a study that offers a lot of job opportunities, is being offered by Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a premier education institution of India. Yes, IIT-M has introduced online BSc programming and Data Science.

Data Science facilitates to streamline, sort and apply scores information available across the web using Maths, Statistics, Computer Science and Information Science.     

Data Science is the tool behind the online services that we use these days like ordering food, renting cab and other services. The role of Data Science is inevitable right from small services to carry out advanced research. Further, experts in the field of Data Science are in great demand in several domains.    

In this situation, IIT-M offers Certificate, Diploma and Undergraduate programmes in Data Science through online mode.

Foundational Certificate
Diploma in Programming
Diploma in Data Science
BSc Degree in Programming and Data Science

Admissions are being carried out in two ways as regular entry and as diploma entry. Those getting admitted through regular entry, need to complete foundation and then move on to diploma program and finally get BSc certification. Those getting admitted through Diploma entry will get Diploma certification. Diploma certification is meant for those working and for those knowing the fundamentals of Data Science.        

Criteria to apply:
Must have studied Maths and English in 10th standard. Further, should have completed either 3 year diploma course or 12th or education equivalent to the same. College students can study this as a second degree too. Graduates and those employed can also apply for these programs. There is no age limit to enrol in the courses.
 
Application process:

Regular Entry
Anyone joining the program via Regular Entry will join at the Foundational Level. The Foundational Level courses allow for interested applicants with a variety of educational backgrounds to learn the basics (Math, Statistics, Computational Thinking, Python programming and English) which help them take up the Diploma Level and then the Degree Level courses.

Diploma Only Entry
The Diploma Only Entry is primarily aimed at working professionals or learners who already possess the fundamentals taught in Foundational Level courses and wish to exit with one or two Diplomas (Diploma in Programming AND/OR Diploma in Data Science) from IIT Madras.

Learners entering via Diploma Only Entry can only do Diploma Level courses and cannot proceed to the Degree Level courses.

Anyone who is eligible may apply by filling in the application form, uploading required documents and paying the application fee.
