Mr N.N.Bandari,the Director of IIT Entrance Examinations informs that many students prefer Mumbai to other places to pursue their couses as the atmosphere is congenial. One is surprized to know that out of the best 100 IIT-GEE students nearly 50 have opted Mumbai. Out of the rest, 27 have selected Delhi,10 Chennai, and 9 Kanpur.
Kharagpur, one of the oldest institutions, doesn’t have a single student. Roorkee and Gowhati also suffer the same fate. At Hyderabad there are 108 boys and 8 girls. The first candidate to apply for a seat there, is the 60th ranking student. For Backward community the number of seats alloted are 755. 735 have already been filled up. As there is no direction from the government to fill up the remaining seats, the authorities keep silence. He also adds that non-availability of certain courses may also be the reason for seats to remain vacant.
