Medical student found dead; senior girl student arrested- 25-Jun-2014
Chennai: A second-year paramedical girl student of a private medical college here was found dead in her hostel room under mysterious circumstances and a senior student has been arrested in connection with the case, police said today.
The body of the 19-year-old girl was found last night and a note recovered from her room by the police indicated ragging being the reason behind the death.
Police said Kotteswari, a third year girl student, was arrested today as the note mentioned her name.
The girl's parents suspected foul play, as there were multiple narratives given to them by college management and others.
"Initially, we were told that my daughter was not well, then they said she consumed poison. Later in the night they said she hung herself from the ceiling, but we saw her duppatta hanging from the window. I doubt whether this is a suicide or something else," the victim's father Kamalakannan told reporters.
Her mother Komalavalli said her daughter complained of harassment from seniors, especially by a particular third-year student, who is believed to have continuously tortured her.
