The situation varies from state to state with some supporting it and few opposing it.  But, NEP carries a lot of positive aspects to the extent that it can be firmly said it will provide several benefits.

Capacity building

The National Education Policy has been framed with the aim that all educational institutions should be student-centric. With about a thousand universities and 45 thousand colleges in our country, every year, several lakhs of students look forward to good higher education. At the same time, in the history of Indian education, we see that several young people are unemployed although they have graduated.

In this situation, with the aim of providing quality education and making the graduates competent, it has been planned to increase the duration period of undergraduate degrees to 4 years. Not everyone will automatically become competent immediately. But the NEP holds a lot of potentials to provide quality facilities and training needed for students in an effort to transform them to skilled professionals.

Multidisciplinary development

The National Education Policy encourages a multidisciplinary education program. Accordingly, even if a student gets admission to one department, he can explore to expand his knowledge in other departments as per their choice. Correspondingly, the educational institutes will also improve it's standards in offering multi-disciplinary programs. This is exceedingly positive a move.

Research

For a long period of time, we have been talking about research-based development, intellectual development, and how India would play a pivotal role in skill and intellectual endeavours on the international stage. We have been talking lot about the need for educational institutions to become solution providers to the challenges faced by industries and about 'start up' and entrepreneurship in educational institutions. However, none of these have been possible to till date. Because there are no research universities and mainstream educational institutions with research-oriented environments in our country. In such an environment, the possibility of more funding for research is possible with the New Education Policy.

Private educational institutions play a vital role in the development of Indian education. 70 percent of educational institutions in our country are private educational institutions and about 70 percent of students study in private educational institutions. Therefore, the National Education Policy has an important role to play in improving the quality of education in private educational institutions. The National Education Policy has a major role to play in equipping the present days youths to be the icon of nations development.
