Indian colleges and universities offer the Catering course as a special training program along with hospitality studies. Some educational institutions provide Catering as an exclusive course.

Significance: Food preparation, food service in hotels, and various aspects related to hospitality management are the focal point of the program. As of 2021, the global market for airline catering services reached a whopping 8.5 billion American dollars.  Apart from air travelers, in a situation where many have started to travel on cruise ships the job scope for those having completed professional studies in catering is significantly high. 

Under Graduate Program: 

B.Sc. in Catering Sciences and Hospitality Management or Hotel Management and Catering Technology/Administration/Marine Catering and Hotel Management. Duration: 3 years

Post Graduate Program: 

� M.Sc. in Hotel Management and Catering Sciences or Hotel Management, Catering Technology, and Tourism/Hotel and Catering Management.

� MBA in Hotel and Catering Management. Subjects covered: Catering course includes various topics like food preparation, food distribution, housekeeping, room allocation procedures, 90% practical training, and 10% theory classes.

Eligibility: For UG programs, candidates need to have passed +2 level with a minimum of 50% marks in English. For PG programs, an Undergraduate degree is mandatory; students having passed hotel management courses are given the highest priority.

Employment Opportunities: Graduates of marine catering courses can find opportunities on ships. Additionally, there are job openings in star hotels, airlines, Indian Healthcare, Army Catering, hospitals, etc. 

Job opportunities are high in corporate catering, event catering, mobile catering, bakeries, catering houses, restaurants, clubs, and resorts.
