Due to the increase usage of digital technology devices, eye disorders are very much on the rise. Hence, there is an increase in the need for eye clinics, spectacles and lenses, subsequently has increased the demand for optometrists.

Valuation:

It is estimated that the market value of ophthalmology, which was 25.04 billion in 2019, will reach 32.26 billion in 2027. Statistics show that this is an average of 4.2 percent per year.

Course: 

Students who wish to join Ophthalmology department without completing MBBS, can do B.Sc.- Optometry or B.Optometry. The demand for talented students having completed these studies have increased manifold.

Educational Qualification:

Must have passed 12th public examination with at least 50% marks in Physics, Biology and Chemistry as main subjects.

Curriculum:

Eye Anatomy, Eye Physiology, Ophthalmic Optics, Ophthalmic Optics, Dispensing Optics, Ophthalmology are the main subjects in optometry course. This four-year undergraduate program includes a one-year internship. In this programme, human eye sight, vision disorders and treatments are taught. After completing UG in Optometry, one can pursue higher studies like M.Sc.- Optometry, M.Optom., Ph.D.
