Workshops for differently-abled at NGMA- 18-May-2015
New Delhi: Workshops in painting, pottery and music for differently-abled children will kickstart the 'Summer Carnival' at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) here this month end.
"Art encompasses all domains of child development. To encourage this essence of art, we believe in encouraging children and adults with different abilities to view our art treasures which would form a rich repository of visual culture in their minds. It gives me extreme pleasure to organise this inclusive workshop with differently abled children," Rajeev Lochan, Director, NGMA said.
The workshops are being held in association with "My Whole Child Centre," a centre that caters to differently-abled children.
Artist Jagmohan Bangani is slated to conduct the painting workshop while Suchismita Mohanty is lined up for the pottery workshop and performing arts would be taken care by the centre
"Art is a good medium for expression, entertainment. Our centre provides a lot of therapeutic services to differently-abled children. In this festival we will be holding workshops on art based therapies which will include dance, drama, theatre," Moksha Nagdev Gudwani, Consultant and Child Psychologist at MWCC said.
The center is run by the Sunder Lal Jain Hospital and Trust.
As part of the community participation in museums, the NGMA has outlined several other workshops during this year's summer vacations for children to learn various arts and build up their creativity.
The workshops and classes which will be held between 10: 30am to 12:30 pm and the performing art workshop is scheduled from 10 am to 1pm.
"NGMA aims to engage children of all age groups to the varied dimensions of art that will certainly benefit one and all. It will also be a pioneering step towards gaining an understanding of what one could achieve as part of his artistic practice and conviction, mentions," Lochan said.
Painting, wood cutting and the art of printing making, creative crafts, art of puppetry and many more workshops have been aimed at being inclusive and interactive.
Specialised lectures on art appreciation, art movements, artists and their work of art in continuation with the interactive workshops will also be showcased in the month long festival scheduled to begin from May 25 and carry on till July 1.
"The educational responsibilities of the NGMA are the foremost. It is fully taken into consideration that the success of this institution would depend on how well it could educate the general public and cater to the needs of professionals and specialists," Lochan said.
Fees for these workshops vary between Rs 500 to Rs 600 and the registration forms and information related to carnival will be available at the Gallery from May 19.
