The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is at the forefront of fostering female participation in higher education and research through various scholarship programs. As a result, the enrollment of women in premier government educational institutions has witnessed a substantial rise, escalating from 8 percent in 2018 to an impressive 20 percent in the academic year 2020-21.

The impact of these initiatives is particularly evident in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). According to the All India Higher Education Survey, the enrollment of women in STEM courses has seen a commendable increase, surging from 38.4 percent in 2014-15 to an encouraging 42.6 percent in 2021-22.

On a global scale, the statistics highlight India's noteworthy contribution to promoting female participation in STEM degrees. While the global averages stand at 34 percent in the US, 38.1 percent in the UK, 32.1 percent in Australia, and 27.6 percent in Germany, India leads with a commendable 42.7 percent.

These strides in female education were elucidated by Dr. Subhash Sarkar, the Minister of State for Education, in his written response presented in the Lok Sabha.

This information highlights the collective efforts to empower and uplift women in the realm of higher education, marking a significant step towards gender inclusivity and academic excellence.
