9,170 engg seats allotted so far- 4-Jul-2015

Chennai: As many as 4,350 candidates were allotted seats on the third day of General counselling on Friday conducted for admissions to engineering colleges in the state at the Anna University in Chennai, bringing up the total number of seats allotted so far to 9,170.

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) officials have reported that 5,207 candidates were called for the single-window counselling sessions on Friday and as many as 834 failed to turn up. The percentage of the absentees (16.02%) on the third day of counselling was much lower compared to the second (21.96 %) and to that recorded on day one—37.53%.

After three day of counselling conducted for the engineering courses, as many as 9,170 seats have been allotted—11,845 have been called for counselling so far, of which 2,606 failed to turn up and 69 skipped. The total percentage of the absentees is 22.

Of the popular streams chosen in the counselling sessions, the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) stood out with as many as 1,873 candidates opting for it. Mechanical Engineering came second with 1,557, while it was 1,195 for the Computer Science stream. So far, as many as 4,872 boys and 4,298 girls have been allotted seats in various engineering colleges across the state. In toto, there are 38,421 ECE seats in the colleges across the state, while there are 41, 815 Mechanical and 30,722 Computer Science seats. Of the 2,625 Aeronautical Engineering seats available in the state, 73 have been allotted.
