Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Minister for Welfare of the Scheduled Castes AP Anilkumar has announced that the government will bear the educational expenses of students from Scheduled Caste families securing admission to foreign universities.
Justifying the demand for grants for his department, he said all the SC students, irrespective of family income, would be eligible for assistance up to Rs20 lakh.
SC students admitted to management seats in self-financing medical colleges would get an assistance of 50 per cent of the fee fixed by the government or Rs2 lakh, while those in self-financing engineering institutions, would be given 50 per cent of the fee or Rs50,000, it has been reported. The scheme would be eligible for students with an annual family income between Rs2.5 lakh and Rs5 lakh.
The Minister said the department would foot the entire fee for SC students studying in the Kerala State Civil Services Academy. Further, he stated that those clearing the civil service preliminary exam would be given assistance to prepare for the mains at any coaching centre within or outside Kerala.
