Higher Education fees to be reduced-

Font Size :

Mr. Thiruvasakam, Vice - Chancellor, Bharthiar University while speaking at the inaugural function of the 'Part-time Jobs Service Center' for students at the Government. Arts and Science College, Kovai, said:

It was decided in the tenth five-year plan that the ratio of the higher education should be enhanced to 10%. But the percentage of those who have pursued higher education stands at 7% only. It was decided in the eleventh five-year plan that the higher education percentage should reach 20%.

For the nations total growth 4% of funds have been allotted to higher education. In today's scenario higher education has become a costly affair. This situation has to be changed. Higher education should be made reachable to economically poor students and hence higher education fees have to be reduced.

The educational scholarship granted by the Government to the backward and most backward class of students is quite insufficient.  Students coming from economically poor background (below poverty line) earn while studying by doing part time jobs. To help these students Bharathiar University has started a website www.buparttimejobsupport.org. Through this website the university has decided to help out 10,000 students from the current academic year in getting part time jobs.
