Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) was started in Pune, Maharashtra in the year 1948.
This medical college was started with integration of Army Medical Training Centre, the Army School of Hygiene, the Central Military Pathology Laboratory, the School of Blood Transfusion and Army School of Radiology.
Totally, there are 130 seats for MBBS studies in AFMC, Pune. In all, 25 seats are allotted for girls alone. Students are admitted through an entrance exam. Those students who have completed their studies from this college must serve the army as a commissioned officer.
The college is completely residential and residence in the hostel is compulsory for all students with service liability. The hostel accommodation is free of charge for service liability candidates. In addition, BSc nursing course is also available in this college.
Only those serving the army can join the PG course.

Here, hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls separately with in the college campus. The hostel was constructed in the year 1965. There are totally 440 rooms. Girls hostel was built in the year 1984. There are 130 rooms for girls alone. The Government takes up the entire expenses of the course. It is considered as a top medical educational institution in Asia.
