Institute of Chartered Accountants is Indias leading institution for accountancy education.
This institution was started in the year 1949 to systemize entire Chartered Accountancy process in India. It has attained great heights in education, accounting related to business and in the field of auditing within 60 years of initiation. ICAI is the second largest accounting institution in the world.
The administrative committee of the institution consists of 32 elected members and 8 nominated members. They are nominated by the Central Government. The head office is located in New Delhi. Apart from this its regional offices are located in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkotta and Kanpur. It has 117 branches in different places all over India.
Out of India, it has its centers in places like Abu-dhabi, Bahrain, Botswana, Doha, Dubai, Indonesia, Jeddah, Kuwait, London, Melbourne, Muscat, Nairobi, New York, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Sydney, Toranto, Zambia and Port Marisbee.

It is possible to function as a Chartered Accountant only after passing the exams conduct by this institution. Three exams are conducted towards this.
-Common Proficiency Test
-Integrated Proficiency Test
-IPCC final exams
Those persons passing these exams become a member of ICAI and are eligible to carry out works related to auditing.
