Established in the year 1956 at Rampur in the state of Uttarpradesh, National Fire Service College is a premier college that provides quality education in the area of Fire Engineering. This college was later shifted to Nagpur in Maharashtra. It functions under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The B.E., (Fire) course was started in the year 1978. The Fire Engineering course offered by this college is highly popular. It is a scientific study of protecting buildings, human life and basic amenities of living from avoidable ravaging fires.

This job is considered to be a noble profession as this area of work involves in protecting life and property from destroying fire. It is a field comprising lot of deadly challenges.  Only those having the intention of doing public service can work with dedication. Primary role of this department is to prevent and protect from fire. These personnels are involved in reducing the damage caused due to fire. They are the ones who modify and design fire fighting equipments according to the latest need or requirement.

Courses:

In fire engineering division B.E., (Fire) three and half year duration and several diploma studies are available in the this college.

Other certificate courses offered from this college are Certificate course like Sub-officer course, Divisional officer course, Fire prevention course, Station officer and instructor course and Breathing apparatus.

Eligibility to join B.E Fire Engineering

Must have passed B.Sc., from any recognized university or its equivalent with chemistry and either physics or mathematics or both as optional subjects.

Age:

Must be between 19 and 23 years, age relaxation is permissible to SC/ST departmentally sponsored candidates up to 5 years.

The duration of the course is 3 years.  

Those having completed plus two with Chemistry, Physics and Maths are eligible to join certificate courses.

Physical fitness:

Candidate should be physically fit and free from any disease of any sort to undergo strenuous practical training. Candidate must enclose a medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner along with his application form, certifying that he is physically and medically fit in all respects.

Minimum acceptable physical standards:

 Height:       165 cms.

 Weight:      50 kgs.

 Chest:       81 cms. (Unexpanded), 86 cms. (Expanded)

 Vision:        6/6, Preferably without any aid.

Placements:

Persons completed fire engineering degree course can join government and private sector in the fire-fighting department.  In addition, they can also join in educational institutions, consulting houses, mega production units, oilrigs, textile industry, natural farming and chemical plants.  They also get opportunities to work in insurance companies, aviation sector and in petroleum refineries.   

National Fire Service College is the only government run education institution providing studies related to Fire Engineering. This division carries out social activity of protecting human life from devastating fire. Hence, stiff competition persists among youngsters to join this college.
