AMIE is the acronym of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers.  Those who cannot do B.Tech / BE regular courses can obtain a recognized degree through AMIE.  Both the Central and the State Government recognize AMIE/AICTE / UPSC/SSC.  Those who obtain eligibility in this can write Civil Services, Engineering Services, GATE and GRE examinations.  The Institution of Engineers at Calcutta conducts the examinations. The association  functions from its headquarters, Kolkatta.  There are AMIE centers in the capitol cities of 18 states and also in 76 other places.
 
AMIE comprises two sections -- Section A& B.  Section A is general for all and Section B is Optional, in which you have to choose your specific subject.  AMIE examinations are conducted twice a year.  Before the written examinations, you have to register as a member first. Only then, you can appear for the examinations.  To write the examination you must have completed plus 2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects with a minimum of 45%.  Those who have a degree in any one of the abovesaid subjects can also apply.
