Chennai: The 16th Education UK Exhibition organised by British Council commenced on Thursday in which about 100 representatives from 58 UK universities interacted with prospective students from and around Chennai.
Around 2,000 aspiring students visited the exhibition on the first day of the two-day event. “Over 44,000 Indian students are currently studying in the UK and the numbers are growing at the rate of 45 per cent over last year”, Dhanasekaran, Head of education-South India, British Council said.
The trends in preferred course of study have also been shifting, according to Oliver Fortescue, International officer of University of Westminster.
“Among South Indian students demand was high for courses on engineering and technology about three years back. But now there is a higher demand for social sciences, media and post-production”, he said.
“We have so many universities coming under one roof which makes it easier for us to pick and choose the right university and right course. It is a great opportunity for us students,” said Archana, a student.
