New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today sought a response from the Centre on a PIL seeking direction to National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) to make Yoga part of health and physical education in schools.

Issuing a notice to the Ministry of Human Resources Development a(HRD) and NCERT, a Division Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Mishra and Justice Manmohan sought their reply by September 22.

Filing the petition, J C Seth, an academician, said there was a need and urgency of Yoga (Science and breathing and Asanas) as part of compulsory education in schools as there were more than 2000 schools run by the Centre here.

He claimed the HRD Ministry informed him, on an application under RTI in March this year, that it has decided to nominate NCERT as academic authority for laying down national curriculum.
